Top 10 TikTok Tricks You Never Knew Existed

Think you’re a TikTok pro? Know ALL the TikTok tricks? Think again! There’s always something new to learn and discover - plus they’re adding new features all the time!

Here are ten TikTok tips and tricks that you never knew existed!

Hide Specific Sounds

Are you tired of hearing the same trending song over and over again? Or it’s been stuck in your head, you finally got it out, and now it pops up on your FYP?

I’ve been there! But did you know that you can block specific sounds from popping up on your feed?

First, find the video with the sound you want to avoid. Then, touch and hold the video until you see a pop-up that says “not interested.” Finally, select “Hide videos with this sound,” and you can freely scroll on TikTok, earworm-free.

Clear Your Cache

Have you been using TikTok for a while and find it’s lagging? Are your videos not uploading smoothly? It may be time to clear your cache. First, click on your profile button at the bottom right corner. Then select the “more” button at the top right corner, and it will give you the option to “clear cache.” Make sure to do this regularly to keep TikTok running smoothly!

Be Careful About Removing Videos

You have a video that isn’t performing, but it’s okay, but you can just remove it. No problem, right? Actually, it can be a problem!

TikTok’s algorithm notices when you are frequently removing your videos. It tells the algorithm that your videos are low-quality - definitely not the impression you want to give!

A little knowledge of how to optimize your videos - with the help of a TikTok expert like myself - can go a long way.

Set a Video as a Live Photo Wallpaper

Have you found something amazing that you want as your wallpaper? If the creator of the video allows sharing, it is straightforward!

Click “Share,” and then select “Live Photo.” Now you can set that live photo as your wallpaper!

Add Captions

Two big reasons you may want to add captions: make your video accessible to people who are deaf or hard of hearing and people who simply prefer to watch with the sound off.

  • On the editing screen, click the “text” button at the bottom of the screen to add captions.

  • Choose a font style, text alignment, and color.

  • Drag the text where you want it on the screen.

  • You can set the text’s timing by clicking the clock icon in the upper right corner of the text box. The word “duration” will be at the bottom of the screen immediately underneath a slider.

  • Adjust the pink box above the timeline to match with where you want the text to appear in the video, using visual clues from the screen captures within the slider.

  • Tap the “play” button to preview the video and adjust as necessary.

Et voila - you have captions!

Turn Off Downloads

Keep all the love for your videos on the platform by preventing others from downloading and sharing. First, go to “Me” on the menu bar. Next, tap “more” and go to “Privacy and Safety.” Finally, scroll to “allow download” and disable that option.

Turn on Voice Effects

Maybe your message would hit your audience differently if a robot narrated it? If you want to play with voice effects, tap “voice effects” on the editing screen and have some fun!

Using greenscreen

Want to record a video but need a cool background? Time for greenscreens! Whether you’re hiding a messy house or want to change it up, you can choose either a video or a photo as your background.

Hit the plus sign to record a video and then tap “Effects.” There you will see two green icons - one for videos and one for photos.

Enable Privacy Account

Want to keep your business TikTok fans from scoping out your personal TikTok account? Only approved users and followers can follow you and watch your videos if you enable the private account.

To turn on a private account, go to your profile button, select “more” at the top right corner. Next, find “Privacy and Safety,” and there will be a switch that you can enable for Private Accounts.

Hide Certain Words in Comments

Trolls are an unfortunate reality in social media, but you can still keep your comments somewhat non-toxic. TikTok has a feature that let you hide comments with specific keywords on your videos. Again, you’ll be going into that “Privacy and Safety” section. Scroll down to “Comment filters,” turn on the switch for “Filter Keyword,” and add those nasty words you don’t want to see again!

Creating videos on TikTok is just the beginning. Using the app to funnel the right audience to your business takes precision and the right strategies.
