TikTok Made Easy: How to Maximize Your Workflow

One of the common objections that I hear from people is that they don't want to take the time to be on another platform.

I understand that -  it seems like every time you turn around someone is telling you that there's something else to add to your to-do list. And yes, creating video content takes time and learning TikTok will be a whole learning curve.

But here's the good news - once you have a good workflow in place, growing your TikTok account and adding new content is easier than you think. I'm all about working smarter, not harder, so I want to make sure that getting the most out of your TikTok isn't going to drain all of your time.

You also don't need to guess and test to find out how to maximize your TikTok workflow - I've already done that for you! In this article, I'm going to outline step-by-step how you can quickly and easily leverage TikTok to grow your business.

We split it up over # days so that you're not overwhelmed and you can implement as we go.

So let's get started!

Day One: Research

The goal of this day is to set aside 2 hours and come up with 6-10 content ideas. There are two ways that you can go about this.

One way is to have a content idea in your head and try and find a trend or format to match. The other way is to find a trend or format that is working for someone else and find a way for it to fit your brand.

Next, you're going to either script out your content or write the key takeaways. If it's a skit format, with two or more characters talking back and forth, you're going to be better to write a script. If your video is going to be just you speaking, then it's better to just jot down point-form notes. A script may take away from your naturalness in this instance.

Now, review your content and make sure that it is concise. When we're talking about something that excites us, we tend to say a lot more, but our audience's attention span is short, so get rid of any fluff. You also want to remember that the news cycle is written at a Grade 5 level. That should be your guideline also - simple phrasing and uncomplicated, familiar terms.

Again, set aside two hours for this process.

Day Two: Filming

Block off three hours on day two and shut off your phone, make sure you have daycare, etc. so that you can be uninterrupted and not have any distractions. Even a short, half-hour meeting will derail your momentum!

So you're just going to film non-stop for three hours directly on your camera app in 10-20 minute intervals. Don't worry about editing, don't worry about being perfect, don't worry about making a mistake, just do it!

Another thing you'll want to do is make sure you're in the right, camera-ready mindset. Do your hair,  put on makeup, make sure your clothes look good, but are also comfortable and start filming!

And finally - have fun with it! Remember, this is just for you and your audience will appreciate the authenticity.

But what if I make a mistake?

No big deal - no one is going to see it except you. But if you want to make it clear that you had made a mistake and are starting over, do something obvious to make sure it's obvious when you're editing. For example, I'll hold up my water bottle to signal to myself that I'm starting over.

What if it takes me 3 hours to film one video?

Oh no, we're not going to do that. Let's go back to our school days and think of it as an exam. You would not spend 3 hours on one question, would you? If it wasn't working, you'd move on to something else.

Same idea here. You don't want to spend all three hours on one video, and I actually recommend only doing 3 retakes and then moving on.

In fact, here's how you can get the most out of your 3 retakes using what I call the rule of three. First, film your video straight through, bloopers and all. Then, watch it and choose three things to fix. Maybe it's your wording or hair or something, but you're limited to three things.

Then, film your second and third take and do the same thing. At the end of it, either choose a take you're happy with, or move on to your next video.

Trust me, that three hours is going to move fast and you want to make the most of it.

Day Three: Editing

So now you're going to focus on editing. Put your sweatpants back on and take 2-3 hours to edit your videos. Add your texts, hashtags, filters and closed captions and save that all in your TikTok account in your drafts.

Day Four to Fourteen: Posting

Each day going forward, post one of your videos and engage with other accounts. This should take you roughly 30 minutes.

And just like that, you have 10 days' worth of great video content that you can recycle and reuse on other platforms.

Now that you have the basics down, go out and start filming those videos! And if you need any help, be sure to check out our other blog posts.
