Products

According to a survey by TikTok, 1 in 4 people say they have discovered a product or brand on the platform that they didn't know about before. From skincare to children's products to fashion and beyond, people are using TikTok as a discovery tool for the things they want to buy.
If you're looking to get your products in front of potential customers on TikTok, how can you get your audience to say #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt?
Don't make your products the hero of the story.
That sounds totally counterintuitive. Of course, you want to show off your products and why they're amazing. But, let's go back to one of my favorite business books, Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller. In it, he talks about the idea of a brand script where your customer is the hero on a journey to solve a problem. Your product is a guide, a way to help them tackle their challenges and pinpoints.
Think about the original Star Wars. Luke is the hero who is on his journey to becoming a Jedi. Obi-Wan is his guide, helping him along the way.
You want to be Obi-Wan, not Luke.
You're showing your audience a lifestyle or reaching a goal. You're showing their journey and how your product is going to help them get there.
Red Bull's TikTok Strategy
One great example of this is Red Bull.
I scrolled through a lot of Red Bull's videos and one thing I didn't see...a can of Red Bull. Because that is not the point.
Instead, Red Bull focuses on showing people how their product can help them live a certain lifestyle. They're all about adventure, pushing boundaries and going after your dreams. And that's what their videos focus on.
They show people doing death-defying stunts or BASE jumping off bridges or cliff diving into the ocean.
The product is not the hero. The person is.
TikTok Tips for Every Business
Of course, whether you are selling a product or a service, there are some general tips you can follow to make your TikToks more effective:
- Keep them short and sweet. People's attention spans are short, so get to the point quickly
- Be creative. Think outside the box and be creative with your content
- Be authentic. Show your personality and let people get to know you and your business
- Use hashtags. Hashtags are a great way to get your content seen by more people
By following these tips, you'll be well on your way to getting your audience saying #TikTokMadeMeBuyIt.
