It's Too Hard (And Other Lies About TikTok)

 PSA: TikTok is for everyone and every business.

There are many people that I speak to who all believe the same thing: TikTok is not for me. That could not be further from the truth! TikTok is for everyone and every business.

I am here to tell you that your business should be on TikTok. Why? Well, let me give you a few reasons:

1. TikTok has 800 million active users worldwide. That is a lot of people that you could be reaching with your content!

2. TikTok is the fastest-growing social media platform. This means that many people flock to the app every day, which gives you an excellent opportunity to reach new audiences.

3. TikTok is incredibly engaging. The average user spends 52 minutes on the app per day. This means that people are really invested in the content they are watching.

I'm an introvert; TikTok is not for me.

You know who else are introverts? 30% of my clients!

I get it - you're not the silly dance-like-no-one-is-watching type. But guess what? That's okay!

TikTok works when you are authentic, so you don't have to be anyone else but yourself. You're just going to talk about what you love, just like you would if a client asked you questions.

I just want to go viral on TikTok

Let me ask you a question - why? Why do you want to go viral on TikTok?

If it's to get 15 minutes of fame, that's what you'll get. But you'll also have a bunch of followers expecting you to keep doing something that doesn't even relate to your business. Those followers aren't actually interested in who you are, what you're offering and how they can work with you.

I've seen this before, and what ends up happening is that your videos will get stuck at 150 views. So let's change the goal - instead of "I just want to go viral," let's say "I just want followers that can become qualified leads." This approach is much better for your long-term business goals.

I don't have time to make videos.

When we say "I don't have time," do we really mean "I don't want to make the time"?

It's easy to get caught up in the overwhelm of creating videos, but if you break it down into small steps, you'll find that it's not as daunting as it seems. Because let's be honest, how long are you spending making sure your Instagram feed looks good? Or creating the perfect Facebook post?

The answer is - you make time for what's important. So if you want to use TikTok as a lead generation tool, you'll make time to create videos.

TikTok is powerful because of how long your videos will continue to be shared. Compared with three days (if you're lucky) on Instagram, TikTok will share your videos for up to 6 months after you post. So doesn't it make sense to spend your time where it'll have the largest ROI?

I don't have the right equipment.

At the bare minimum, you need a phone with a camera and natural light source.

Stand opposite a window. Imagine it like a clock: you are the 12 o'clock, and your window is 6 o'clock. Place your phone at the 5 o'clock mark for the best angle for filming.

I'm worried that people will make comments about me.

I'm not going to lie - they probably will. I've received comments about my appearance, the sound of my voice, etc. etc.

However, I'm going to turn this one around - this is a sign you're doing well. People are noticing you.

In my experience, you will never get criticized by someone who's doing better than you. So take those comments as a sign that you're doing something right.

I feel overwhelmed when it comes to TikTok.

I get it. TikTok is overwhelming. It may be a new platform for you, and there's a reasonably steep learning curve.

However, let's take it one step at a time. I'm not asking you to create multi-character skits with green screen effects. Start with a 30-second clip that is you talking to your phone.

You don't have to do it alone.
