How to Use TikTok to Get Google's Attention

Most of the time, if you don't know the answer, you say, "just Google it." However, more and more, people search less on video and more on TikTok. In fact, according to one survey, 2/3 of Gen Z users turn to TikTok for information.

Why is that? Well, there are a couple of reasons. But one big reason is that we are all really busy and we want answers fast...which is perfect for TikTok's short video format.

I'm not the only one who has noticed how people use TikTok - so has Google. That's why they have started indexing TikTok videos in their search results.

So what does this mean for your business? And how can you leverage this to get your TikToks in front of even more people?

Google is now indexing TikTok videos...so what?

Well, this is actually a huge game-changer. It means that your videos are now being indexed - so when people search for something related to your video, it will show up in the search results.

So your audience just expanded outside of TikTok - people can find out about your TikTok content even if they don't have an account.

It's completely reasonable to see a future where TikTok becomes an essential part of any good SEO strategy and I know you, as a thought leader and game changer, want to get ahead of the competition.

So, if you're not already on TikTok, now might be the time to start thinking about how you can use the platform to promote your business. If you are using TikTok, how can you make sure those videos are also catching Google's attention?

Tips for Making Your TikTok Account Google-Friendly

The first thing you want to do is get into your audience's head. What are they searching for?

For starters, your audience is not going to be using industry jargon or technical terms. They are going to be using more everyday language - think about the questions they would type into Google and then give them the answers in your videos.

Once you have that clear in your mind, you can use those same keywords and phrases in your TikToks.

Here are three ways that you can optimize your videos:

#1 - Pick an SEO-friendly username.

So for example, if you are a website copywriter, include those words in your username! That’s going to get your account picked up in short-form videos on Google’s first page.

This is incredibly important, especially if you are in an oversaturated market, like real estate agents or mortgage brokers.

#2 - Add more text overlay (and think about the text you’re using)

Add more text overlay in your videos - but don’t just add any text.

Use the words your audience uses instead of industry jargon or words you only use in your program/courses. Remember - you want to include words and phrases that your audience would be searching for.

#3 - Make the most of your captions

For my US readers, your captions are now expanded from 300 to 2200 characters.

That means you have a lot more space to include content that is going to make your video easy to search. My recommendation? Make the most of it. Include your entire video script in the caption so that your video has more chances to be found by your audience.

This will help Google's algorithms understand what your videos are about and surface them to users who are searching for that content. And, of course, the more views and engagement your videos get, the higher they'll rank in Google searches.

Why is Google doing this, and what does it mean for the future of search engines and social media platforms?

Google's decision to index TikTok videos is a big step forward for the search engine because it shows that Google understands social media platforms are increasingly becoming sources of discovery and valuable information.

Don't forget - Google's whole purpose is to help people find what they are looking for, so if your video is clearly valuable and helpful, then it will rank it higher.
