Common Mistakes on Live
Mar 14, 2024
Lights...camera...action! You are on live!
Being on video was one hurdle many of us had to get over for our business, but we did it. Now, you want to go even further and go live! That is amazing and I commend you for wanting to put yourself out there even more.
However, there is more involved than simply clicking "live". Let's go into common mistakes that I see on TikTok Lives (and how you can avoid them).
Have a Plan
There's a balance with going live on video. On one hand, you do not want to sound wooden, stiff or overly rehearsed. However, on the other hand, you do not want to wing it completely either because then you run the risk of sounding unprepared and rambling. When you ramble, your audience loses interest and will leave.
You need to find a happy medium and have some sort of plan or structure for your live stream. This could be as simple as having bullet points or key topics that you want to hit during your live.
As well, there's no worse feeling than walking away knowing you've forgotten something. The best way to ensure this doesn't happen is to have a pre-made outline or list of points you want to hit. This allows you the ability to be flexible and spontaneous while still staying on track.
A note about notes - keep them near your camera so you're making "eye contact" with your audience.
Widen That Gap
I've said it before and I'll say it again - your content should widen the gap between where your audience is today and where they'd like to be.
We sometimes fall into the trap of too much “how-to” content and give information to people that aren’t sure whether or not they trust you. Whether or not you truly understand their challenge.
Instead, focus on the gap - the gap between where they are today and where they would like to be. Focus on proving that you understand their challenge and why it is so meaningful for them to get results.
What fills that gap? Your offer!
Call to Action - What's the Next Step?
I find this is especially a challenge for female entrepreneurs. We want to be helpful and give value, but we don't want to come across as "sales-y".
The key is to make sure you have a very clear call to action at the end of your live.
Again, reinforce why your offer is the solution to their deep-rooted challenges, and then give them a clear, specific direction about what to do next.
If you want them to buy your product, tell them that! If you want them to sign up for your challenge or opt-in, tell them that too.
Make sure it is very clear and easy for them to take action.
Your Lives Coming Alive
I hope these tips help you create an amazing live stream that helps you serve your connect to your audience, get your offer in front of them and get a whole bunch of new leads to boot!
